Access to the river via the ramp on The Sands and at Jubilee Ford was closed yesterday morning (Thursday 4 June) and remains closed this morning (Friday 5 June).

Officers stopped a vehicle in the early hours of this morning (Friday 5 June) in the Appleby area, heading to the trade fields for Appleby Horse Fair.

A joint operation between Cumbria Police and Westmorland and Furness Trading Standards on the first day of Appleby Horse Fair (4 June) resulted in counterfeit items and air weapons being recovered.

The Multi-Agency Strategic Co-ordinating Group (MASCG) for Appleby Horse Fair has this morning, Thursday 4 June, taken the decision to close the ramp access to the River Eden on The Sands and at Jubilee Ford in the town, on public safety grounds.

Fairgoers at Appleby are being invited to new ‘meet the expert’ sessions organised by animal welfare charities at this year’s event.
