Uninsured van seized as pre-fair policing operation begins

21 May 2026

Today (21 May) is the first day of the pre-Appleby Horse Fair policing operation and began with the seizure of a van.

The vehicle was in the Cowan Bridge area and was seized and towed away after it was found to have no insurance.

Detective Superintendent Dan St Quintin, GOLD Commander for Appleby Horse Fair, said: "We will not hesitate to take action where we find vehicles which are not insured or which are in a dangerous condition or not fit for purpose.

"Appleby Horse Fair is the Constabulary's largest annual policing operation and the public can expect officers to act where they see offences - including vehicle offences - without fear or favour and regardless of which community the individual belongs to."
