Keeping the streets clean
Picking up litter and keeping the streets clean is a priority for the partner agencies in the MASCG.
We’d like to say “thank you” to the cleaning teams and street sweepers who are already out-and-about, keeping the streets clean in and around Appleby and Kirkby Stephen.
Thanks also to our Environmental Health team, who are keeping the verges around encampments in outlying areas clean and distributing bin bags during their daily visits.
An additional 53 temporary litter bins are in place for this year’s Fair, as well as 49 portable toilets to supplement existing facilities and extra staff will be available at the end of the Fair to assist with the final clean up.
If you're visiting the Fair over the weekend, you can do your bit by putting your litter in the provided bins, or bag it up and take it home with you to dispose of it there.
You can report any emerging issues during Appleby Horse Fair using the quick and easy to complete Community Action Group (CAG) online form.
The CAG form can be used to raise issues you'd like to see addressed by the agencies involved in the response to the Fair and is available at https://forms.office.com/e/rw7dsc2SyM
Important: This form is not the place to report crime, or incidents to the police.
You can report non-emergency matters to the police online at https://www.cumbria.police.uk/report-it or by calling 101 and using the dedicated Appleby option.
Always call 999 in an emergency.
